Application of the DOF System along with a Biological Process
This is the recommended technology for domestic wastewater treatment, which needs the lowest building cost of a WWTP. The DOF system will produce an excellent water resource which satisfies liquid fertilizer criteria for agricultural or panting purposes. The produced effluent contains essential nutrients of nitrogen and phosphorus for kinds of plants. By using the DOF system, the essential nutrients of nitrogen and phosphorus are saved in the produced effluent, and only un-necessary pollutants like SS, pathogens, odor, and color are removed. The biological process in wastewater treatment is the process to remove the essential nutrients of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater. Construction cost of the WWTP will be saved by about 2/3 of a biological treatment if domestic wastewater is treated by the DOF system.
The DOF system may be used along with the biological process in domestic wastewater treatment. Effluent of the final DOF system may satisfy water reuse criteria for gardening, cleaning, and agricultural purposes. However, this process requires high construction costs for building a biological process along with the DOF system.
When the DOF system is used without chemical addition for pre-treatment, the following biological process will be enhanced in its performance such that removing SS 95%, COD 50%, BOD 60% contained in raw wastewater. In such a way, about 40% capacity of the biological process can be increased without building additional wastewater treatment plant for covering the exceeding volume of 40% in the existing WWTP. This option will provide a lot cheaper building cost than extending the existing biological process.
The DOF system can be used along with a biological wastewater treatment plant when the entering raw wastewater exceeds the capacity of the existing biological process. The DOF system can be used for treating the exceeding portion of the raw wastewater in parallel with the existing biological process. This option will provide saving the construction cost a lot more than extending the biological process, and the effluent of the DOF system may be used for irrigation purposes.
For maximizing the efficiencies of the DOF system, a DOF system without chemical addition for pretreatment may be used as 3). And the DOF system may be used for post treatment or advanced treatment for wastewater treatment as 2) at the same time which are shown in the above diagram. By using the two DOF systems in one process, the size of the biological system may be reduced by about 50~60%, which will save the construction cost of the WWTP.
